Minstrel Man

Because my mouth

Is wide with laughter

And my throat

Is deep with song,

You do not think I suffer

after I have held my pain

So long?

Because my mouth

Is wide with laughter,

You do not hear

My inner cry?

Because my feet

Are gay with dancing,

You do not know

I die?

{Langston Hughes}

A friend of mine said that this was one of their favorite poems. It's immensely sad, don't you think?

It is sad. But it's great--some people are great at hiding their emotions. This poem is wonderful at explaining that.

That completely describes the person who loves it. Such a happy-go-lucky social butterfly, but he does have emotions I rarely see.
